A giant has fallen and the people are scattered.
David Kaunda Technical Secondary School (also fondly known as Dakasets) is known for producing the cream of students amongst most government schools in Zambia. The school has produced numerous Men and women who have become leaders of industry.
But like a neglected minefield, the school has reaped little from what it has sown. Despite numerous big names passing through the school and going on to make Macro economic shifting careers, they have given back little or nothing to the school.
However, the class of 1997 has decided to change that.
The class of 1997 in an effort to make a contribution and get together, felt like giving a little back to the school, In the form of paint works were moved by the state that they found the school in when they returned to the school in 2013.
This has led to a drive that has seen the class of 1997 take on the challenges the school faces in the hope that other alumni may pick up the mantle and get in with ‘the program’.
The Class of 1997 has so far been able to undertake numerous steps which have seen them produce furniture for the school and take on renovations for starters in the grade 12 dining hall at the school.

The establishment of a bank account and various fundraising activities such as a Golf tournament in Chilanga, a fundraising dinner with the Guest being no other than the first Republican President Dr. Kenneth David Kaunda (whose father the school is named after), contributions, and numerous campaigns have managed to push for works at the school to start.

Currently the schools three dining halls have little to no furniture well we can at least say two for now, as the first one prepares to be equipped this Saturday the 17th of June, 2017. One part of the journey has finally been achieved with the completion of the equipping of furniture for the Grade 12 dining hall and hand over is expected on the prescribed date.
The Minister of General Education Honourable Dennis Wanchinga is expected to be in attendance to officiate the drive that the group intends to start with the works that have so far been undertaken to the dining hall.
Other important works that the school has that require attention are the completion of a library at the school, the restoration and equipping of the remaining dining halls, landscaping of the school, restoration and rehabilitation of the Hostel blocks amongst many others.
It is hoped that other students from other years who have passed through the School may take time to sit with the school administration and initiate similar drives to bring the school to its former glory not only by its products but also in its state.
